Jimmy,
I am starting a new blog at copsbehavingbadly@blogspot.com. I share many of your frustrations, but in little Louisville KY. My question is two-fold. First, do you mind if I add a link to your page on my page and second, would you be interested in doing a "guest blogger" article to help me get my blog kicked off? Thanks!

I love these videos and I completely agree with your point. That kid at the end yelling, "She broke the law!", is the best moment, next to when you caught the woman in front of a fire hydrant during a fire.

I have a concern and a couple of suggestions.

My concern comes from this video, you were standing on the street for an extended period of time. It's a bit of a pickle, that you place yourself in. You're potentially blocking traffic, in an effort to enforce rules upon those who enforce the rules, intended to keep traffic moving safely. Aren't you guilty of exactly the point you're making with the meter maids? I'm sure I'm wrong about this, it's tough to see from the camera angles I just heard horns honking and assumed. Just be careful about that.

I'd like to read about the outcome for these videos. Do you follow up to learn what happened to the subject of your reports? Do you have other videos where you just record the details of the plate number, location and infraction? That's probably the safest way to pursue this, but one hell of a lot less entertaining.

Anyway, thank you for taking the time to create and post these videos. I'm inspired enough to start taking photos in my town and submitting them to city hall. Stay safe and don't take any crap.

I totally agree with you. Alot of those cops act like they can do whatever they want to and don't have to follow rules like the rest of us. I see it all the time in my city and I am sure it is common all over the US. One thing I see that you haven't documented is the way cops speed all over the place. Good for you to make these police accountable for their actions. If a cop has the ability to write tickets for things, they should get a ticket for doing the same things. These police aren't even on official business when they do this stuff. They are getting lunch or buying a paper! Have a good one man and keep up the good work!

Half the people that you caught were supervisors! Oh my god...I can't believe that these police just do whatever they want and get away with it. I bet every complaint that you filed has been thrown in the trash by the person taking it. These cops protect their own and they could care less about the traffic laws. Good cops deserve respect but if someone decides to be a cop, they should be required to actually follow the law. In fact, these individuals should be held to an even higher standard than the rest of us because they are supposed to be an example of good citizens. I worked for the city government and I saw the way that complaints were handled (pretty much swept under the rug) by angry patrons. This is something different in that these police are actually breaking the law, not just doing annoying things to the public. Keep up all the good work...

I think what you're doing is "RIGHT ON". We all expect those who we put in a position of authority to be accountable to following the same laws/rules. PERIOD...
I don't feel that it's harassment by any means. I applaud you for taking on the challenge.
Be careful....

Just wanted to say that I caught a special on MSNBC called Video Vigilantes. They did a segment that featured you and your camera. I just wanted to admonish you to keep up the good work. Although I live in Washington DC, I feel your frustrations with law enforcements and the double standards. Please DO NOT stop what you are doing. WE NEED THIS!!!!!

I am appalled a what you do. You are pointing out minor issues that these officers do - keep in mind these officers have also saved countless lives in accidents and make the city streets safer by putting away the countless number of criminals in your fine city of New York. I'd like to see what happens when one day you are in need of help from one of these officers that you harangued for parking violations. In my opinion, these people risk their lives everyday to make the place safer for us - they can park any damn place they want!

You are a sad commentary on "citizen activism". Your boorish, mean spirited and arrogant (childish) behavior makes your points meaningless...You're the story and no one wants to hear you...Get a life.

I just saw you on MSNBC. Keep up the good work.

In a world of consumerism and financial mayhem, I applaud your efforts in striving to right a wrong. I grew up in one of the "pockets of poverty" and have experienced police misconduct first hand. Unfortunately, there were those police officers who routinely turned a blind eye, those who got involved in drug distribution and other crimes, and those who were unnecessarily abusive to ordinary, law-abiding citizens. I have no police record, a master's degree, and my parents were active throughout our community; however, my parents, siblings, and I were routinely abused verbally, and in some cases physically, by the very police officers who swore to enforce the laws and promote civility. In one instance, a white male police officer attempted to fondle me. At the time, I was only nine years old. Not only did my family witness a cowboy approach to policing, but we also witnessed a great deal of racism and sexism. I learned early in life that police officers were just people subject to the same biases all human beings confront at some point in time during their life journey; and that police officers had not "cornered the market" in processing these biases. For these reasons and more, I find it deplorable when I often here people swear to the the notion that police misconduct - especially in the "pockets of poverty" is non-existent and/or negligible and/or insignificant. Hence, I am one hundred percent behind any effort to level the playing field with regards to law enforcement, the tax payers they are charged to protect, and the laws they are charged to enforce.

However, here are my concerns:

You may want to revise your methods for it appears in the footage that you may be fostering chaos. I fear for you and the surrounding public if the dynamite you light with your approach ever blows.

Two wrongs do not make a right. Is there a better way to expose misconduct without coming across abusive and/or obtuse? You appear to be a very intelligent man. You have an opportunity to incite these offenders to be more accountable for their actions, while reporting them at the same time.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I only see women and minority offenders. Are you capturing white male offenders on film? My family and I, as well as many urban centers, continue to see as much, if not more in some cases, misconduct on the part of white male officers. Hopefully I missed something.

For every one police officer I have ever witnessed engaged in misconduct, I have witnessed at least five putting their lives on the line and making a positive difference. Have you ever thought that some of the officers you are exposing might share your philosophy? Please remember that public servants are the "small guys." While some may view a public servant salaries as exorbitant, in the grand scheme of things public servants earn very little as compared to the "decision makers" in our society. Have you ever thought about exposing misconduct on the part of the "big dogs?"

Sometimes we become the very people we strive not to replicate...

I wish you wisdom and safety,

Marsha

Great job on exposing the bad guys with the badges. We here in Methuen, Ma have a major problem with dirtbikes and atv's on the public roads. Doing that is illegal there by both state and city laws. The cops do nothing about it because it is friends and relatives of high ranking Police officials that are doing it so they are protected. I have been attacked by one of the riders just for reporting it and have it on my security cam showing the guy with an extendable baton which is also illegal in Massachusetts. They charged me with crimes I didn't committ and had to drop my charges against the guy that had the illegal weapon just to keep me from being charged. Yes the video doesn't lie. I recently found out that these guys stalked my wife to find out where she works. Ohh there is so much more. Yeah I put some videos on Youtube of these guys and it only made things worse. Just wait til they either get hit by a car or run someone down. They recently fired the chief of police because he was so corrupt. It was recently discovered that the recently retired deputy chief had secretly set up a slanderous site shortly before he retired. He slandered those that had something against the system the way it has been run by the corrupt officials involved.

No way of saying this without offending someone, even though it's true, but aren't the vast majority of these people who act like the law doesn't apply to them... er... minorities? Could that be part of the problem? Just expressing an idea here that I think could have some validity. Tell someone long enough that the world 'owes' them and what kind of attitude can you expect from them? Go ahead, try and make it into something that I'm not saying, I understand. Just pointing out an injustice we have foisted onto minorities for years; the idea that they don't measure up simply because of the color of their skin. No wonder so many in these videos have attitudes. All the best and keep holding their feet to the fire Jimmy.

Hey Eddie,

Take your caps lock off, it's almost as obnoxious as a city official parking illegally to hand out parking tickets, or using there, when you should spell their.

Parking regulations are designed to allow traffic to flow, and to allow safety crews access to equipment. It defeats the purpose of these regulations when they're enforced by those who break the rules. The people pay for the regulations and those who enforce them. Jimmy is just a person who demands what he paid for. If you can't follow the rules while you enforce them, try getting a job you can handle. Maybe you should try washing dishes, and take transit to get there, loser.

I can't believe someone actually "went there" and made this about race. Marsha asks if Jimmy is only video taping women and minorities and why not white males? Are you serious Marsha? I suppose you believe that Jimmy should let the minorities and women go until he catches enough white males to even it out. Due to affirmative action, this may be impossible. That is not being racist, that is just a fact.

Jimmy, please keep catching every official that you can on tape. Please don't pick and choose but get them as you see them. I think you are absolutely great!

Go Jimmy!
Do your thing... We as citizens definately have your back. We just don't know you yet. I am sure that anyone that has gotten a ticket is on your side and that means 95 % of New Yorkers. You have to come on over to my block any see what really happens. One of there headquarters is located on East 107 street between lexington and park avenue, manhattan. The precint and community board are aware of one frozen zone for their parking, But they go way over board. They park on side walks and do not move they're personal vehicles for strret cleaning. Hell, we even think that the plaques that are on there windows are totally fake. They flood all the surrounding blocks. We have been fighting this for years. You would have a field day!

you were so happy that the D.O.E. paid for your new camera, that's money that comes out of funding for the kids. You are a whiner and more annoying than any infraction you record. PLEASE get a life, to do this 20 hours a week and keep a job, obviously you aren't married or dating. Try one of these social activitiies and you will find your quality of life is enhanced 10 fold

Your the biggest tool in all of New York!! Get a life!!! You act like an idiot and others are right in stating you won't bother real cops because your afraid of them!!! Why don't you spend your time and energy on something important like homelessness or hunger!! There's more homeless people in New York then there are traffic cops breaking stupid parking laws!! I wish that board of Ed. worker broke your face!! And the traffic cop that said maybe your life is in danger was not a threat he just said hypothetically speaking! Wussie!
