If You See Something, Say Something.

"If you see something, say something. " New York City's slogan to help prevent terrorism has very important ramifications. The slogan implies that in addition to all the Government resources , the City also relies on the vigilant eyes and ears of the public to help keep the City safe.

Obviously , the police cannot be everywhere at the same time. Not only can everyone participate in protecting our City, but it is imperative that we take an active stance and become aware of our surroundings in order to make it more difficult for the terrorists to accomplish their objectives.

The Slogan "if you see something, say something" does not have to relate only to acts of terrorism. In my opinion, the slogan should refer to every part of City life that needs improvement.

New York City is the greatest city in the world. The city has many culturally diverse neighborhoods, with great food, entertainment, interesting personalities, and miles of opportunities for anyone who seeks employment or education.

Unfortunately , there is also a dark side.

For the past two years, the focus of my activism has been to improve the City's aging transit infrastructure, endless traffic jams, lack of parking, and the unfair practices of traffic enforcement.Quite simply , I want to make New York City a friendlier place for people to live, work, and visit.I have also tried to empower the public and wake them from a state of apathy.

I believe that there was a certain degree of altruism when traffic & parking laws were written. The laws were written to improve public safety for pedestrians and motorists.

New York City rakes in over $600,000,000 a year in parking fines. It has become painfully obvious that the city is no longer interested in public safety but rather in collecting revenue. The biggest clue to this equation is written on the orange envelope that comes with a parking summons."Make all checks payable to the Department Of FINANCE."

With such a large amount of money at stake, there is too much opportunity for corruption and lack of discretion by the ticket writers of the Traffic Enforcement Agency. All too often, these poorly trained officers treat the public obnoxiously and can often be seen violating the same laws that they are supposed to be enforcing , thereby creating a public safety hazard and offsetting the reason they exist in the first place.

I have entertained millions of youtube.com users with videos showing my confrontations with these traffic officers who are abusing their authority.

Although I am happy to make people laugh and entertain them, my ultimate purpose is to inspire dialogue and effect positive change on these issues in order to make life easier for everyone in the city.

I hope that the public outrage will force city hall to rethink its strategies and remove ambiguous signage, find ways to improve the flow of traffic, create more parking, provide more training and supervision for the out-of-control traffic enforcement agents, and show more compassion and discretion in summons writing.

I hit the streets armed with a video camera. When I see a public official behaving improperly I videotape it and call the 311 system and file an official complaint.

The only way that city officials can continue to abuse the system is if we turn a blind eye and give them the free pass to do so. Obviously, I cannot be everywhere at the same time. If we want to make the city a better place we have to all work together. It is our responsibility and civic duty to help prevent terrorism , and also official misconduct and malfeasance.

Therefore, "if you see something, SAY SOMETHING !"

Sincerely,

Jimmy Justice.

Loved your videos and wish you were there when the "street walker" ran to give me a ticket while I was in the passenger side, my baby in the carseat and my 8 month pregnant wife was walking to the car and was about 3 feet away. Bastard had the nerve to tell me that if I could not afford a ticket we had no business driving a car. Here's to J. Cole, a legalized whore with a badge. (NOTE: Traffic "cops" are NOT police officers, most are low paid, scum of the earth whores that give the NYPD a bad name)

Hey Jimmy,
The city needs your help and skills in another area ... in particular exposing the illegal chinese "church" buses that run rampant in queens and other parts of the city. These "buses" run along regular bus routes ... stop in front of houses which they have designated as bus stops and honk the horn until their cargo aka passengers arrive. I highly doubt the organizations that run these buses or church vans are being taxed ... why does the city allow this to happen?? I work nights and trying to catch any sleep with these buses running all day is impossible ... please help

Here's a start, KEEP KICKING BUTT!
Take your video to the courts and file a mandamas against the public servants for violating the law. Not the parking but "abuse of power". By law they have to accept your charges against these people.
The 2nd. step is to be there in court when they appear and if they get away with it then you have what is called case law! At this point what is legally good for them is good for all citizens and if there is corruption higher up, then get every person that has received a citation and file a class action law suit in Federal Court. This will make them clean-up the bad public servants. TAKE MONEY OUT OF THEIR POCKETS!

Hey, I love your work !! We need more people like you out there.
Today, I saw a San Francisco Meter Maid pull up on a meter that had 10 minutes on it, he backed up, parked, and fell asleep !! I got a picture of it! I was on the phone with my sister in Phoenix who directed me toward your site. The guy woke up and wrote a ticket for the car at the then expired meter. Then a guy pulled up behind the car he was ticketing and tapped the bumper while trying to park, and the meter maid lazily put his little golf cart-ish vehicle into reverse, then pulled back about five feet so that he could better lecture the guy who tapped the bumper. He did no damage, and the bumper was your typical beat-up-from-city-parking bumper. I stepped out of my showroom and told the meter maid to get lost, and that he had no right to lecture some poor guy who was just trying to park when he went out of his way to do an injustice by waiting around for a meter to expire. I told him that I got a picture of him sleeping that includes his vehicle number, and that now I couldn't wait to report him. He mumbled something about how 'well that guy should leave a note' as he hastily started his little vehicle and darted away.
A classic sad case of little big man syndrome.

Jimmy Justice, you have balls of steel.

I got a ticket from a gang of NYPD Thugs who decided to stop their cars in the middle of 42nd St East Cross Town Traffic so they could chit-chat with each other.

I was unlucky enough to be directly behind them and late for an appointment so I tapped my horn.

I know you know what the Arrogant Swine did then.

About 6 of them piled out of their porkmobiles acting like I was Public Enemy #1 for daring to assert my rights as their fucking Taxpaying Boss.

These no-good bastards have forgotten for whom they work long ago.

Thanks for reminding them for the rest of us.

You're a true hero.

This is very irresponsible. By revealing that this officer is a member of the narcotics division, you put at risk the lives and safety of him and his family. If you only focused your effort and determination towards something productive and worth-while, it would do this city a lot more. Grow the hell up its only a parking spot.

Hello Jimmy,
I really admire how brave you are. I have fallen victim to the police many times. Especially here in Palisades Park, NJ they are very racist. The population is mostly Korean and the cops treats us like crap. Especially if you have trouble understanding. They break the law everywhere knowing people are scared to report them. They are feared more . Where are the days when the cops are suppose to be trustworthy. Hope if you ever have the time, you come up to Palisades Park and see the way the hot shot loser cops are here. Even the Korean cops are jerks.
