This won't be popular, but I think picking on cops stinks. They put their lives on the line for us. Do whatever you want to city workers. Take it easy on the cops. They'll die for you. Please go easy on them.

Came across your YouTube videos and blog this week as I tried to find out what to do about the state of siege the TEA has us under these days. This shit it truly out of control. Witness:

- One day last month, my car was legally parked in a spot between two driveways. I parked there many times without incident. Indeed, one can find a car in that spot at any time of day, except during street cleaning hours. Alas, I went to fetch the car on very stormy morning so my wife could drive our two young children to school, but it was gone. Stolen? I assumed so. But no - it had been towed for, allegedly, obstructing the driveway.
- Two days ago, when the wind chill was about 5 degrees, I picked up my mom, 77 years old, and dropped her off right in front of my building so she could baby sit. My wife was to come downstairs and get in the car upon grandma's arrival. Yet, while in my car, idling, having expeditiously dropped grandma off and while expeditiously picking up my wife, along came 2 TEAs in a car. They blocked me, then one got out and, with no communication at all, began to write me a ticket for violating the No Standing rule that was in effect in that spot. As I am well versed in the parking rules, I asked her to stop and informed her that I was expeditiously dropping off/picking up passengers. Nope. She said that's not allowed (wrong on the law). She was, frankly, a serious bitch - refusing to make eye contact or to give a moment's pause to her determined ticket writing. That the weather was freezing, that I was parked right in front of my home, and that I was not obstructing any traffic - these facts were ignored. I demanded that she summon her supervisor. You will not be surprised to learn that, although he was somewhat more courteous, he supported his colleagues.

Anyway, Jimmy, there are more stories, but you've heard them all, no doubt. FYI - I'm an assistant district attorney. That is, I too am in the law enforcement business and, accordingly, am eager to support vigorous application of parking regulations. But I have no empathy for these agents (or anyone in any profession) who robotically carry out their duties without any thought or consideration for the circumstances (not to mention, as in the two examples above, without proper knowledge of the rules). Such arbitrary and capricious application of the law is corrupt and unconstitutional. But, there's little recourse other than to support the type of private actions of people like you.

Regarding this week's indignity, I've made my complaints to 311, the CCRB (although it seems they don't handle complaints against civilian NYPD employees), my local council member, and the mayor's office. I allow myself little hope of achieving anything. Meanwhile, I'll keep you in mind any time I see some good TEA shenanigans and will try to send you pics/vids.

So are you just going to coast or rest on your laurels, or be encouraged by this to move ahead and apply more pressure?
If the latter, I nominate you for the Best Libertarian Blog 2010!!

First of all Jimmy, the law says an officer can break the law in the execution of his/her duties. Secondly this is really lame way to scam the public into giving you money. Please get a life

Hey Its me said...

jimmy, you have now become MY Hero!!! You are speaking the voice of SO MANY OF US who are FED UP!! I Love that you caught these "people" on Film. They are ABUSERS and this year I have been saying I'm scared of the Police and have felt more fear than safety in the last few years.
You are doing a GREAT thing. Also, I work in the Dept of Ed and the corruption in that CITY paid system is probably MORE corrupt than the NYPD, but on the other hand they seem to be 2 peas in a pod.
Thank You Jimmy Justice!!
have a facebook page? I'm going to circulate you!
